The divided up songs of '...The Value of Nothing' is the output of the Silly Automatic years, edited and slanted more towards the Sohail Khan end of that collaboration between himself, Paul Dews and David S. Wilkinson. The seven songs on the album represent a mixed up series of musings on the slightly over the hill genre of rocking and popping. A little of its tongue firmly it own and other cheeks, the music is stylistically diverse and lyrically confused. It is silly as it is political and ironic in an oddly serious way.

Described variously as 'grumpy' and 'brill' by consumers - this offering wends its way through he minimalisms of 'Shopping' to the poignant 'Intergalactic Warlord Weekend Song' - which is angsty in its relationship to the adult memory of childhood. Through to David Wilkinson's 'Bare back in Rusty Pram', a bumpily jaunty and happily surreal ditty. Over the way to the nicely sleazy 'Scar Tissue', then taking a sort break for milk and cookies at the Texas Chainsaw Massacre through the glass darkly and something nasty in the garage chest freezer of 'Hungry Ghost'- and out the other end of the political, prescient and plainly angry (first penned in 1997) 'Meaningful Monkey'.

'...The Value of Nothing' is quiet nicely fitting, marginally accomplished, serious and rather stupid - all at the same time. So much so, I think it is well worth a try even though I do say so myself.
