05/05/2009 Can Bob Dylan sing? A leading operatic tenor thinks so
Can Bob Dylan sing? Well, like most poprockers, most of the time he chooses not to, mostly talking, occasionally singing from the throat. But when he chooses, Dylan can sing – properly, from the diaphragm, like Pavarotti and Frank Sinatra. Don’t take my word for it, though. Listen, instead, to Ian Bostridge, leading English operatic tenor, in an interview in the leading classical music magazine, Gramophone (July 1998 issue): “Don’t Think Twice It’s All Right is unbelievably beautiful… Dylan is incredibly musical… on the highest level of artistry…”
