12/09/2006 Buddy Holly’s genius commemorated
BBC Radio 2’s outstanding celebration of the art of Buddy Holly, which concluded tonight, served as welcome reminder of the genius of the Texan singer-songwriter-guitarist. It also reminded the listener of three salient facts: · How much early Buddy aped Elvis. I hadn’t ever realised that before. · The brevity of Holly’s career – a mere eighteen months from his first hit single to his untimely death. · How much he influenced poprock in the subsequent ten years. A highly recommended pair of programmes, well fronted by Steve Harley. You can hear them again for a week via the Listen Again feature on the BBC Radio 2 web site.
