23/02/2006 Unmissable new Stones product
For a band of “has-beens” and “wrinklies”, the Rolling Stones have an enviable habit of releasing a ceaseless flow of unmissable new product. Subconsciously primed, no doubt, by the Stones’ world-class publicity machine, I’ve been getting great pleasure from several recent releases – the justly praised A Bigger Bang; the re-released Sucking In The Seventies, with its quartet of must-have hard-to-find tracks, notably Mannish Boy; and the EMI Rarities 1971-2003. Not to mention Mick Jagger’s songs on the unjustly neglected soundtrack to the remake of Alfie, starring Jude Law. It’s looking increasingly likely that best rock band ever to come out of the Thames Delta will go on rolling forever.
