06/02/2006 Jimi Hendrix for downloaders
Jimi Hendrix’s place in the Pantheon of rock music is assured – he virtually invented the guitar as an instrument to be played rather than simply strummed. Hendrix is one of the few rock musicians respected by players from more serious genres (aka jazz). Hendrix only made a handful of albums, but it can be difficult to select a few tracks to showcase his work. All credit, then, to journalist Robert Sandall for his pick of the ten “best” tracks from the Hendrix singles and albums catalogue. Sandall’s selection appeared on 19 January in the intermittently excellent Perfect Playlist series, which appears in The Daily Telegraph most Thursdays. Info: www.telegraph.co.uk/arts
