26/01/2005 Ray Lamontagne, Jack Johnson: hot new recommendations
I keep hearing good things about Ray Lamontagne and Jack Johnson. Typical is this note from a respected regular reader from Pennsylvania: "I do enjoy your newsletter/web site - was pleased Rickie Lee Jones got mentioned; you have probably forgotten, but I mentioned her to you long ago. Two new artists worth a listen are Jack Johnson and Ray Lamontagne. The former is very smooth, with sharp lyrics - a social conscience without being preachy. "I saw Lamontagne in Philly last week - very intense, romantic artist - he reminded me of Dylan - particularly in my favorite songs where some of the lines almost sound as if they could have been written by Dylan. I read on his web site that he has been referred to as the next Dylan - maybe the 1,000th artist I have read that about - try not to hold that against him, because I really do think his debut album at age 31 is special."
