25/10/2004 Music Hall Of Fame - the 1970s
Last night's UK Music Hall Of Fame, running on Channel 4, reached the 1970s. Ten nominations, with one act to be chosen by viewers as an inaugural inductee, was split neatly into five musicians for grown-ups and several we wouldn't endorse: We'd endorse the nomination of:
Gerry Smith
UK Music Hall Of Fame - the 1980s Channel 4's UK Music Hall Of Fame, the series of 5 x 2 hour programmes broadcast on Sunday evenings, 2100-2300 BST, reached the 1980s on Sunday. The format is that a panel of music biz bigwigs has picked ten poprock musicians from each decade, from which viewers will choose one from each decade for entry into the inaugural Hall Of Fame. The panel's nominations for the 1980s, broadcast on Sunday, were very different to Music for Grown-Ups' take on that decade's top poprockers:
The Smiths
Public Enemy
Guns N Roses
Stone Rose Gerry Smith
TV channel C4 is currently screening UK Music Hall Of Fame, a new series of 5 x 2 hour programmes broadcast on Sunday evenings, 2100-2300 BST. A panel of music biz bigwigs has picked ten poprock musicians from each decade, from which viewers will choose one for the inaugural Hall Of Fame. The Nominations for the 1990s are: They also chose five "Founder Members" - Hmm. Musicians for Grown-Ups in that lot? Not many: Elvis and the Beatles? Both on the borderline. It's a rewarding series, though, with handy introductions to some unfamiliar acts.
