06/08/2004 Bob Dylan and the blues
Michael Gray is one of the most respected of the Dylan writers. The third (and final) edition of his classic study, Song and Dance Man: The Art Of Bob Dylan, is packed with information, learning and sound judgment. Its strongest (and longest, by a mile) chapter is probably that outlining Dylan's blues roots. Gray has developed a presentation based on the Dylan/blues theme, and has just announced a new autumn itinerary, after successfully touring the show in the first half of 2004. If it's as good as his earlier talk on Bob and rock n roll, it'll be a fine evening of entertainment and enlightenment. I'll be at the Lewes show: see you there?
