26/07/2004 The Clash's landmark album set for de luxe reissue
Columbia Legacy deserve the thanks of music fans for the creative way in which they preserve and enhance the legacy of the great musicians on their roster. Their reissue programmes for Miles Davis, with some magnificent boxed sets, and Bob Dylan, with the revelatory Bootleg Series, have given serious fans a lot of serious pleasure. They're now about to repeat the trick with The Clash, arguably the last great rock band. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the US release of The Clash's strongest album, London Calling, Columbia are set to release a de luxe Legacy Edition version, with 2 CDs plus a new DVD component. The package goes on sale in the US on 21 September. Yummy, yummy. Watch this space for European/ROW release dates. This is the most important autumn release so far. Gerry Smith
