06/04/2004 Jazz rockers playing now, and jazz masters playing soon
Two famed rock musicians who are really jazzers in disguise are playing in London at the moment. Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, with his Tentet, is playing Ronnie Scott's on 5-17 April. And ex-Police guitarist Andy Summers plays tonight and tomorrow at Pizza Express, 10 Dean St, Soho W1. If you prefer to hear some of the jazz greats, the Barbican has Joe Zawinul (3 May), and the super-stellar bill of Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Dave Holland (2 July). It's difficult to think of a stronger line-up of top jazzers. Gerry Smith
