On Air this week: Maria Callas and Gram Parsons

Following last week's multiple offerings - including Johnny Cash, Ralph Stanley, Artie Shaw and Jim Moray on TV, and, on radio, yet another gem live from the Met in NYC, Rossini's L'Italiana in Algeri - this week is rather quieter.

* Tuesday 2 March 1120pm, BBC2: Maria Callas - Living and Dying for Art and Love, on her legendary role in Tosca, by Puccini. Silly sub-title, but this should be a showcase for a musician widely regarded as the greatest singer of the twentieth century.

If you want to check out Callas on TV but can't see this transmission, the diva's greatness is preserved on a growing range of DVDs. Recently seen discounted to £10 each:

 Life and Art;
 La Callas Toujours (French performances);
 Live at Covent Garden ('60s);
 In Concert (Hamburg, '59/'62).

* Friday 5 March 1000pm, BBC4: Gram Parsons - Fallen Angel. Lots of live footage and talking heads celebrate one of the founders of country rock.
