The project has introduced Andrew to a number of talented
craftspeople who are following the ethic of using period technology
and materials to re-create the art and crafts of different archaeological
periods. You will find some of their 'experimental archaeology' work
for sale at the Pottery in Harray. One area of Andrew's work explores one of the earliest styles of prehistoric
pottery - Unstan Bowls from the Neolithic - inspired by finds from Unstan
Cairn itself and the Tomb of the Eagles.
Skara Brae, the Neolithic home of the Grooved Ware style is also in
his repertoire. The builders of Maes Howe chambered tomb, the most famous
in NW Europe, would have been at home with Andrew's pottery.
The Bronze Age invites a progression of style for Andrew. Early Beakers
with cord impressions, subtle burnishes and fine mica enriched surfaces
tempt the eye. Decorative wine and storage vessels of this early Bronze
Age epoch, made using prehistoric technology, bring us closer to the
lives of the past millennia.
Please note: These items are modern works based on the styles of Neolithic,
Bronze and Iron Age, and Roman periods. Where a specific site or locality
is given in the description, the
work
is a close reproduction of items found there. Contact

out what we have in stock.
